Speculation over recent days was strong that former Republic of Ireland international Damien Duff would be playing his football at Tallaght Stadium but appears as though he may be on his way to Inchicore.
Pat Fenlon remained very coy about the rumours in his press conference yesterday ahead of tonight's Europa League clash with Progrès Niederkorn.
"I don't have any money to spend, that's for certain," Fenlon stressed.
"So if anything happens then well and good but I don't have any money to spend on a player unless we get through and then maybe that might change.
"I said at the time that anyone would be interested in a player of that calibre. I think any quality player coming into any league or club would help. We need a lift. With the negative publicity around at the moment, we need another lift."
Rovers' Dublin rivals St Patrick's Athletic may be about to swoop for the former Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea star after a photo was posted on social media showing Duff in conversation with Saints boss Liam Buckley.

Duff sparked a lot of rumours when he appeared at Richmond Park last month for St Patrick's Athletic's 3-0 win over Longford Town.
The 36-year-old was analysing the game as part of his UEFA 'B' Coaching Badge course with the FAI.
His mother was among those that was left confused by his presence in Inchicore.
"My ma was upset... she thought I was signing for Pats and I hadn't told her," he said.
Who Duff will lineout for in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division remains a mystery.
