Mino Raiola, the super-agent who brokered the world-record £89m transfer of Paul Pogba to Manchester United, believes a £200m deal could be completed “within two or three years”.
Pogba’s return to Old Trafford was more than the £86m Real Madrid spent on signing Gareth Bale from Tottenham and Raiola believes English clubs’ spending power will continue to rise.
The 48-year-old said: “How the economy is evolving, especially in the Premier League, we will not be far away - within three or four years - from a £200m deal.
“I even think that maybe within two or three years that can happen. They will probably be Brazilian, because they add something special. A wonder child like the new Neymar or the new Messi for sure will make £200m,” Raiola told talkSPORT.
This summer’s transfer window saw Premier League clubs spend more than £1bn on new signings after the new £5.13bn television rights deal involving Sky Sports and BT Sport.
13 top-flight teams also broke their transfer records as they flexed their newfound financial muscle, including the £34m signing of Granit Xhaka for Arsenal and Chelsea’s £32m acquisition of N’Golo Kante from champions Leicester City.
Raiola operates on behalf of United pair Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan while also representing Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Italian forward Mario Balotelli.
