Paper Talk: Man United to miss out on Seria A target while Arsenal may improve on £45m Benzema offer
Manchester United's pursuit of Lazio's Lucas Biglia seems to have come to an end while Karim Benzema could still end up at the Emirates.
One of the more unheralded reported targets for United manager Louis van Gaal was Biglia, the 29-year-old Argentinian midfielder.
A defensive midfielder by trade, he joined Lazio two years ago but has been on the United radar for some time, though the signings of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger appeared to lessen the need to reinforce that particular area of the team.
Talk of a €25m move appears dead in the water after Italian publication Corriere dello Sport say the Argentine is set to be offered a deal worth around £1.8million a year.
The Sun claimed the midfielder was set for talks with United but they now appear poised to miss out.
The never-ending speculation regarding Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema's proposed move to Arsenal refuses to go away.
The Gunners continue to be linked with a move for the Frenchman, and respected Italian journalist Emanuele Giuilanelli, who writes for Gazzetta dello Sport, reports that a sizeable bid has been tabled, with another in the pipeline
Giuilanelli tweeted: "Benzema deal is on: best offer is from Arsenal, £45m. They will take a decision soon. He wants to reach Wenger."
Arsenal will reportedly move for Borussia Dortmund frontman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if the move for Benzema doesn't materialise.
