Brazilian star Neymar has admitted he did hold talks with Manchester United over a possible summer switch to Old Trafford, but those early negotiations did not lead to an official offer.
Reports in England claimed United were prepared to spend €330m - €175m on Neymar's buyout clause and the remainder on tying the player to a long-term contract at Old Trafford - to acquire the 23-year-old.
Neymar joined the European champions from Santos in June 2013 and scored 29 goals and set up seven more to help Barca win the Primera Division, Copa del Rey and Champions League treble last season.
The South American has a buyout clause set at €190m.
Some observers rubbished the speculation linking the Barcelona forward to the club, but the player himself admitted early talks were held.
"We had conversations, but there was nothing concrete," he told ESPN.
"I heard that there were offers but none were made to me."
United eventually signed Anthony Martial from Monaco on deadline day, and the Frenchman has hit the ground running with four goals in his first four matches in all competitions.
Former AC Milan player Pato has said he too received an offer from th Red Devils before close of the transfer window.
"Two hours before the window [British transfer window] closed I had a very good offer from Manchester United," he told Sportv.
Pato is currently on loan at Brazilian club Sao Paulo.
