Every week the need for Liverpool to sign a new goalkeeper seems to become more acute and now a new name has emerged on their target list: Kasper Schmeichel.

According to the Sunday People, Jurgen Klopp's gang have made an enquiry for the Leicester City keeper as they step up their search for a new No.1.

However, Liverpool were apparently told to do one.

High-flying Leicester are adamant that the 29-year-old Denmark international will not be sold during this transfer window as the Foxes push for the title. But the pressure will no doubt return at the end of the campaign.

Klopp is eager to recruit top-class competition for Simon Mignolet who has had a hit-and-miss season despite signing a new five-year deal.

Schmeichel has played a key role in Leicester’s rise this season, and Manchester United are also keeping tabs on him.

A move to Old Trafford would see him follow in the footsteps of his father Peter, who is was one of the club's most famous goalkeepers.

In case you missed it yesterday, Alex Teixeira wants to leave Shakhtar Donetsk this month - putting Liverpool and Chelsea on alert.

Liverpool have made a £24.6m bid for Teixeira, 26, and are poised to make an improved offer. Speaking to Brazilian newspaper O Globo, Teixeira said: “I would like to move in this transfer window and have told them [Shakhtar] that.

"They have received a very good offer and they are working on a solution. But if I don’t go now then I will leave in the summer. After six years in Europe and with Shakhtar we are ready to move and I have spoken to my wife and daughter.

"It is my desire to move to a big league and I know that the English league is very strong. I am ready and I know that I will grow up a lot there. I am aware that two big clubs such as Liverpool and Chelsea are interested but I haven’t given my word to either of them.

“I am not ruling out other leagues but I do want to play in the Premier League. In my mind, it is the strongest in the world. I want a challenge and to further my career there. My aim is to move to a big club so that I can well there and get a place in the Brazil squad. Everyone knows that it is hard to achieve and I need to leave here to achieve that goal.”

Lastly, Manchester City are favourites to hold off Liverpool and Arsenal and land young Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams.

The Spain Under-21 international has just signed a new contract with a release clause of €50m, but that won't put big-spending City off.

The Manchester club have been watching Williams closely, but they are not the only team interested and Real Madrid, Arsenal and Liverpool have also been regular visitors to his games.
