Murphy netted 27 goals for the Tractor Boys last term and put in an impressive performance in Ireland's 1-1 draw with Scotland last month and is a top transfer target for a number of clubs in the Premier League and the Championship.

West Brom are also understood to be interested in the 32-year-old Waterford man's services with Tony Pulis an admirer.

Ipswich are under little pressure to sell after receiving £8m for Tyrone Mings who has moved to Premier League newcomers Bournemouth.

"We've done great out of it in terms of the money that will help us rebuild," McCarthy told Sky Sports News HQ.

"I think it's great for him (Mings). Having spent next to nothing on him and getting the money we did was a remarkable deal for a Championship left-back."
