Manchester United United in shock move for former Liverpool forward Luis Suarez
Get ready for this rumour United fans. United want to sign a former Liverpool player in the January transfer window. They only want to buy a certain Luis Suarez!
Yes, the rumour mill has probably been indulging in the festive spirits to throw up this crazy line but we're going to run with it anyway, because imagine the shock and surprise if such a deal actually came off!
According to reports from French publication Buzz Sport - and then picked up by the Liverpool Echo nonetheless - United are actually going to make their move for the Barcelona forward next month.
United may be in desperate need of firepower in their attack, but would Barcelona consider selling one of their key assets? Probably not, but what a rumour it is.
United are likely to have to wait until the end of the season to make their move for the Uruguayan - as if the Spanish giants would sell in January - but Louis van Gaal's side are believed to be confident of getting their man.
Suarez has seen his stock rise and rise since his move from Anfield to Barca and has become one of the best strikers in the world.
It is unclear why Suarez would want to leave his Barca bubble and how United fans would feel about signing an ex-Liverpool player who was caught up in that racism controversy against former defender Patrice Evra.
While a move for Suarez may have to wait, Italian outlet ItaSportPress believe United will launch a £99m move for three Premier League stars next month.
Romelu Lukaku, John Stones and Ryan Bertrand are all on Van Gaal's wishlist and the Dutchman is prepared to splash the cash to land the trio.
The report says they’ll spend £51m on striker Lukaku, while £33m will go on his Everton team-mate Stones. Southampton full-back Bertrand will take up the final £15m of the cash.
And Bertrand isn't the only Southampton player United are interested in as they will revisit their move for winger Sadio Mane.
United tried to land the winger during the summer but Saints manager Ronald Koeman insisted he was not for sale.
While Koeman will still be relunctant to part with Mane, United are willing to pay up to £25m to secure his signature.
The former Red Bull Salzburg player has scored three Premier League goals this season for Southampton.
