Manchester United have NOT made a bid for Sadio Mane
Confusion reigns over reports that Manchester United have made a move to sign Southampton forward Sadio Mane, with sources confirming to sundayworld.com that the Old Trafford club have not lodged a bid for the Senegal international.
United insiders appeared to suggest earlier in the day that they had submitted an offer to Saints for Mane last week and still retain an interest in signing the player.
Yet Southampton have made it clear that they have no intention of selling Mane in this transfer window and will not consider offers for the winger as they prepare for a season of Europa League football.
It may be that United will formalise their interest in Mane in the coming days with a cash offer, but claims that a bid was submitted last week appear to be wide of the mark.
Southampton's eagerness to play down suggestions that Mane is on his way to United did not stopped on eager keyboard warrior taking to Wikipedia to alter his biography to suggest he is already on the books at Old Trafford.
Mane - who scored ten goals in his debut season at Southampton after a move to Red Bull Salzburg last summer - captured the headlines when he scored the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history against Aston Villa last May and maybe it is these goals that have alerted Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal to his talents:
United's links with Mane came as something of a surprise on the day when the club made claims that they had withdrawn from the race to sign Pedro, shortly after it was confirmed the Barcelona forward had agreed a move to Chelsea.
Pedro is expected to undergo a medical with Chelsea on Thursday, before his move to Stamford Bridge is formalised.
