Manchester City are poised to lodge a third bid for Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling this week.

Sterling will report for pre-season training at Liverpool on Monday with his participation in the club's pre-season tour - which departs for Bangkok on Sunday, July 12 - in increasing doubt.

Liverpool have so far rejected offers of £30million and £40million for the England international but another bid is widely anticipated, with City likely to want to try and complete a deal quickly.

Liverpool, however, are determined to stand by their strict £50million valuation and will continue to adopt a hardline stance over Sterling's future.

The 20-year-old has refused to sign a contract extension at Anfield but still has two years left on his current deal, with Rodgers initially insisting he would not be sold this summer.

Now, however, Liverpool will reluctantly accept his departure if the right offer is made after bringing in a number of players this summer, including Roberto Firmino, Nathaniel Clyne, James Milner and Danny Ings.

Sterling has made no secret of his desire to play in a team competing for titles and the Champions League and used a controversial interview with the BBC to insist he was not a “money-grabbing 20-year-old” after rejecting a £100,000 a week contract offer towards the end of last season.

The player’s agent, Aidy Ward, has also infuriated Liverpool with his conduct over the past 12 months and the club called off talks in May, following an interview in which Ward claimed his client would snub a £900,000 a week deal.
