Liverpool set sights on PSG defender
Liverpool are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain left-back Lucas Digne, according to reports today.
Digne joined PSG from fellow Ligue 1 side Lille in 2013 for £10.5million but fell out of favour last season and made just 15 appearances.
Now The Daily Mail are suggesting that Liverpool could be prepared to offer him a way out of France by making a bid for his services.
Digne, who has eight caps for France, could be a realistic challenger to Alberto Moreno as Liverpool's first-choice left-back.
Moreno was inconsistent in his first year at Anfield after joining for £12million last summer, while another alternative in the position - Jose Enrique - has fallen out of favour.
Meanwhile, there are suggestions Liverpool could re-sign Xabi Alonso, with the Spain international stalling on a new contract at Bayern Munich.
Anfield legend Alonso moved to Bayern in 2014 from Real Madrid and has rolled back the years since taking up a more deep-lying, quarterback role.
And as he enters the final year of his contract, and with rumous of a return to Liverpool growing louder, Alonso says he has put talks over a new deal on hold.
"My contract? We will see what happens," he is quoted in The Metro as saying. "This is not the time to discuss this subject."
Kolo Toure believes the signing of Christian Benteke will transform Liverpool into serious title contenders this season.
The Belgian striker's £32.5 million move from Aston Villa to Anfield is set to be announced TODAY following the completion of his medical.
"Benteke is a great player," Toure told The Liverpool Echo. "It's much better to have him on my side than have to play against him.
"He's so strong and powerful - we all know about his qualities. He's a goalscorer but his mental strength is very important."
As Benteke arrives, The Independent reports that Rickie Lambert is edging closer to the Anfield exit door.
West Brom and Norwich City have already expressed their interest in the £3 million-rated frontman, who is surplus to requirements.
And we are told that West Ham have indicated they want to sign Fabio Borini, with the potential fee around £8 million.
Mario Balotelli is also another whom Liverpool would like to move on this summer. At the moment the likelihood is that he will get a loan move towards the end of the window, with an option to sign him permanently agreed with his new club.
And finally, Liverpool are battling Real Madrid to sign Marco Reus in a deal worth £41.9 million, claims Spanish newspaper AS.
The Reds are believed to be looking for a marquee signing to top off a busy summer of business, and have been linked with Mario Gotze recently.
Borussia Dortmund, we are told, are not willing to sell but AS says Liverpool and Madrid hope to convince them with a big-money offer.
