Markovic will have a medical at Melwood on Monday. The Serbia international’s move was delayed last week over a minor issue regarding paperwork but Liverpool are poised to finally wrap up the deal.

Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, is keen to make at least three further recruits – including the Belgium international Divock Origi – and he will target at least one striker to replace Luis Suárez.

Bony, the Ivory Coast international, is known to be a top target and Liverpool are considering making a bid this week to head off competition from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Swansea forward scored 25 goals last season and he is understood to have a £20million release clause.

Bony’s Swansea team-mate Ben Davies, the Wales international, is also on Liverpool’s radar if their bid to sign Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno collapses.

Another Rodgers target, Southampton defender Dejan Lovren, has avoided a club fine after reporting for training on Sunday.
