Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp eyes €80m Barcelona star
Spanish reports are suggesting that Liverpool manager has identified Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen as a priority transfer target.
The 23-year-old German international signed for the Catalans last summer in a €12m move from Borussia Mönchengladbach, but has been forced to share goalkeeping duties with Claudio Bravo, who plays in Barcelona’s La Liga matches.
Klopp was a known admirer of Ter Stegen during his time in charge of Borussia Dortmund and Spanish daily sports paper Sport reports that the German is unconvinced by the qualities of Simon Mignolet and Adam Bogdan.
"Ter Stegen has always shown its displeasure for not playing more games and limited only to the Cup and the Champions League," the article says.
However unless manager Luis Enrique is happy to sell the player, a major stumbling block could prove to be the €80m buy-out clause inserted in his contract, which doesn't run out until June 2019.
Impressive in the Champions League as Barcelona claimed the Champions League, Ter Stegen didn't play a single game in the league last season, but similar to his international team-mate Manuel Neuer is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and often the launchpad for attacking moves which would fit into Klopp's renowned style of play.
