Nigel Pearson is battling to complete a deal for Champions League winner Esteban Cambiasso ahead of Leicester City's daunting trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Pearson has made a renewed attempt to sign Cambiasso, the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan midfielder, on a free transfer after holding further talks with his representatives on Monday.

Sevilla are also interested in taking the 34-year-old after his release from Inter but Pearson remains confident of striking a deal.

Leicester have stepped up their bid to sign Cambiasso after injuries to midfielders Danny Drinkwater and Matty James, with last season's Championship winners travelling to Chelsea this weekend.

Rod Fanni, the Marseille defender, has also held talks with Leicester over a surprise move.

The former France international is available for a nominal fee and could sign in the next 48 hours.
