Manchester United are set to renew their interest in Real Madrid’s World Cup-winner Toni Kroos two years after losing out on his signature to the Spanish giants.
Former United manager David Mayes identified the classy midfielder in 2014, but Kroos chose the Bernabeu and the Manchester Evening News reports that one of the major stumbling blocks was the appointment of Lousi van Gaal as Moyes’ successor.
The 26-year-old remains a first-teamer, but with competition fierce, particularly in midfield, Kroos has again been linked with the Premier League giants and the Manchester paper believes that Mourinho’s presence in the hotseat would improve the chances of any potential move.
Kross moved to Madrid for a fee in the region €25m and various Spanish reports have put an asking price of double that in order for Los Bloncos to sell their asset. The Red Devils are reportedly willing to offer the player a significant pay-rise to join the club.
