Ashley Cole is expected to complete a move to Seria A side Roma that could earn the former Chelsea player €7.5m a year.

The left-back has been linked with moves to North America's Major League Soccer, French side Monaco and Premier League rivals Liverpool, but it appears likely that the former England international is set to sign a three-year deal with the Rome-based club.

The 33 year-old flew to the Italian capital on Saturday for contract discussions.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was thought to be keen to bring Cole to Anfield, but would not have been offered a contract anywhere close to that on the table from Roma.

Cole spent eight seasons at Stamford Bridge following his controversial move from Arsenal and made 229 appearances for the club.
