Arsenal’s pursuit of Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain appears to have been given a very encouraging boost. One of Naples’ radio stations has claimed that “Higuain will go to Arsenal” as part of a deal worth a reported £50m.
Olivier Giroud is also expected to be part of the agreement and could be offered to Napoli in an exchange deal. Added to this, Napoli would prefer to sell the forward to Arsenal rather than Serie A rivals Juventus, according to reports in Italy. Promising times for the Gunners.
Contract talks between the club and central defender Laurent Koscielny have stalled, the Daily Express reports. This has subsequently opened the door to Bayern Munich who are allegedly interested in bringing in the French international as they look to provide cover to Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng. Would Koscielny really be content starting on the bench though?
Roma have told the north London side that they’ll need to fork out £38m for Greece international defender Kostas Manolas. According to Goal, the Serie A side are desperate to hold onto the Greek though. The club’s backline has suffered a number of set-backs with defender Antonio Rudiger currently undergoing treatment after tearing cruciate ligaments in his right knee.
Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter in their numbers begging Arsene Wenger to make a move for Riyad Mahrez. The Leicester winger recently rejected a £100,000-a-week contract offer made by the Foxes and could be poised for a move away from the King Power Stadium. Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for the 25-year-old so the Gunners will need to act quickly if they want to make an official move for the PFA Player of the Year.
According to the Telegraph, Wenger could be mulling over whether to 'hijack' West Ham's deal for Carlos Bacca. The Hammers had looked ready to prise the Colombia international away from AC Milan with a £25m bid but the Gunners could yet still throw a spanner in the works.
Lastly, Wolfsburg have made it painfully clear for Arsenal that they won’t be selling Julian Draxler. The German international was subject to a number of rumours linking him to the Emirates but Wolfsburg’s director of sport Klaus Allofs has well and truly brought an end to such speculation. Speaking to Germany’s Sport 1, he said: “He [Draxler] will stay at VfL. There is no discussion. It is not the time for any vow, but we will not sell Julian. Our plans are clear."
