Toon scrape past Stanley

Newcastle survived a scare at Accrington Stanley to progress to the third round of the Carling Cup last night by winning 3-2.

Goals from Ryan Taylor, Shola Ameobi and Peter Lovenkrands ensured Newcastle avoided a second-round upset as the League Two side battled well against their Premier League opponents.

Jermaine Beckford scored his first goal for Everton as the Toffees eased though 5-1 against 10-man Huddersfield. Fulham enjoyed their own taste of a 6-0 victory as Mark Hughes' men cruised past Port Vale with Zoltan Gera and Bobby Zamora scoring twice each at Craven Cottage.
