St Ledger winning fitness battle for World Cup qualifiers

GIOVANNI Trapattoni has been handed a major fitness boost with the news that Sean St Ledger is recovering from his hamstring injury quicker than expected.

The 28-year-old has been out since November and had been a major doubt for the Republic of Ireland’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Sweden and Austria.

St Ledger is due to meet a German specialist for a second time but Leicester City assistant boss Craig Shakespeare has revealed that the centre-half has resumed light training.

“Sean has been able to get outside and do some training but he is not fully training. He looks like he is progressing day by day,” he said.

With Trap already without Marc Wilson and Richard Dunne a major doubt for the crucial March clashes, St Ledger’s news could not have come at a better time.
