Spurs to focus only on themselves

Hugo Lloris is still hoping Spurs can finish in the top four

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris insists Tottenham must focus all their efforts on beating Sunderland on the final day of the Barclays Premier League season - and not whether Arsenal might slip up at Newcastle.

The Gunners moved back up into fourth place after their 4-1 home win over Wigan on Tuesday night sent the FA Cup winners down. Spurs are a point behind their north London rivals, and with an inferior goal difference so have to secure victory over Sunderland, who are now safe, and hope the Gunners draw or are beaten on Tyneside.

Speaking to Tottenham's official website, Lloris said: "We can't think about the Arsenal result, we have to think about our performance, we need three points and from there, we can see what happens."

He added: "It won't be easy. Sunderland have good players, a good team and when we played against them in December, it was a tough game. That was a good result for us.

"It has been difficult for them and a number of teams concerned with relegation.

"Paolo Di Canio has realised his objective, he has saved the team in the Premier League and it is never easy to play against a team that has no pressure."

Defender Jan Vertonghen echoed Lloris' call for complete focus. "All we can do is win our games and it's important for us to keep believing," the Belgian said. "We would have to do that anyway on Sunday, so let's hope we can."

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas expects nothing less than 100 per cent commitment from his players to the task at hand on Sunday.

Speaking to Tottenham club media, reported on their official Twitter feed, the Portuguese coach said: "We will focus on our job and see what happens after that. We are aware of what we have to do. The determination is there.

"The ingredients of the game are dangerous. We have to be aware. We have to focus on our task. We have to do our job and independent of results elsewhere, we want the achievement of reaching 72 points, that is important for us."
