TOTTENHAM were held to a 1-1 draw in a pre-season friendly by a Los Angeles Galaxy side featuring former striker Robbie Keane.

Gareth Bale, who has been left out of the British Olympic team due to injury, gave Spurs a first-half lead in California before the home side levelled before the break.

Bale converted a 17th-minute cross from summer signing Gylfi Sigurdsson but David Lopes replied before the break to make sure the match ended 1-1.

David Beckham was absent from the Galaxy line-up after being selected to feature for the MLS All Stars against Chelsea this evening.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa needed a penalty shootout to win their pre-season friendly against Portland Timbers after the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Villa won the shootout 5-4 in Oregon after goals from Irish international Ciaran Clark and Matthew Lowton had twice given the visitors the lead against their Major League Soccer opponents.

But Sebastian Rincon and then Rodney Wallace drew the home side level before the game was decided by penalties.

Stoke suffered a 2-1 defeat to MLS side Columbus Crew in Ohio.

The Premier League side went ahead after 23 minutes when Jonathan Walters headed in a Ryan Shotton cross at the near post.

But goals from Aaron Horton and Ben Speas wrapped up the win for the home side in the first game of three for Stoke in North America.
