Silversmith's trophy graffiti
IT'S not exactly Wallender, but a mystery which has surrounded Sweden's league championship trophy is set to be solved.
Malmo were crowned Swedish champions last Sunday, but days later the Swedish Football Association (SvFF) said they wanted to check the trophy to see if it had been tampered with by a silversmith.
A newspaper report claimed that engraver Ingemar Eklund, had inscribed 'Bajen forever' on the inside of the trophy as a tribute to his favourite club, Hammerby, who became the first club to win the new trophy, in 2001. Bajen is their nickname.
According to the story, Eklund told a colleague he made the inscription on the trophy. Alas, he took the secret with him to his grave as he died recently. The SvFF will now inspect the trophy in a proce-dure involving a miniature camera.
Eklund's daughter Marie said: "It is a waste of money. Put those thousands of kronor into youth sports instead. It's ridiculous."
