Ryan Giggs is leaving Manchester United after 29 years as a player and coach as he pursues a career in management.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at where he may end up next based on the first managerial jobs of other former United stars.


Robson headed to his native north-east to take his first steps in management; leaving Old Trafford in May 1994 to become player-manager of second-tier Middlesbrough.


The current Hull boss was another one who went down the player-manager route in what is now the Championship. He took over at Sheffield United ahead of the 1997-98 campaign.


Hughes was thrown in at the deep end, starting out in international management as the boss of his native Wales in 1999.


The former midfielder dropped down to League Two to cut his teeth as a boss when he joined Macclesfield as player-manager in 2006.


In a surprise - and unsuccessful - move, Neville travelled to eastern Spain to become head coach of Valencia in December last year.
