Russians put smart money on Carlos enjoying life in hot seat
Roberto Carlos will be made to earn his millions over the next few weeks after the Brazilian defender was appointed as temporary manager of big-spending Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.
Gadzhi Gadzhiyev was fired this week after winning only one of his last five games despite the £20m arrival of Samuel Eto'o from Inter Milan.
Carlos, who joined the club in February as a player, said Anzhi had discussed the possibility of buying Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.
"I'll have a meeting with the boss (Russian billionaire Suleyman Kerimov) and we'll discuss plans," the 38-year-old World Cup winner said. "We've already talked about trying to sign players like Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard or Robert Pires."
Israeli Avram Grant, a close friend of Kerimov, has been tipped to succeed Gadzhiyev as permanent manager after attending several Anzhi matches in recent weeks.
There's obviously some things money can't buy -- common sense.
