RONALDO GRABS LAST-GASP WINNER FOR REAL

CRISTIANO RONALDO converted a hugely controversial penalty in the fifth minute of injury time to give Real Madrid a 2-1 away win over Elche in La Liga last night.

Richmond Boakye looked to have earned the minnows a draw when he finished off a sweeping move a minute earlier to cancel out Ronaldo's 51st strike from a free-kick that should never have been awarded.

Radamel Falcao scored his sixth and seventh goals in as many Ligue 1 matches as big-spending Monaco beat Bastia 3-0 at home last night to stay top of the table.

The Colombian, signed from Atletico Madrid for €60m is now the league's leading scorer ahead of team-mate Emmanuel Riviere who opened the scoring in the 39th minute.

Falcao doubled the lead two minutes later when Joao Moutinho, another multi-million signing, set him up with a deep

pass over the defence, and he wrapped it up from close range one minute from time as Monaco moved on 17 points from seven games.

They are two points ahead of champions Paris St Germain who won 1-0 at Valenciennes thanks a first-half injury-time strike from Edinson Cavani, who scored with a clinical finish after being set up by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Roma maintained their perfect start to Serie A with a 2-0 win at Sampdoria, while Rafa Benitez's Napoli were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw at home by Sassuolo.
