Robbie Keane is set to be offered a chance to extend his career by making a lucrative move to Australia’s A-league.

Keane confirmed last week that his five-year stay at LA Galaxy has come to an end, with the tributes pouring in over the last few days for the Dubliner confirming he is leaving as something of a hero to fans in America.

At the age of 36, Keane may have been expected to hang up his goal-laden boots, but his statement last week confirmed he intends to extend his career as he wrote:

“I believe that now is the right time for a new challenge as I look towards the next chapter of my playing career.”

Now Keane looks set to be handed a chance to start a new adventure, with Brisbane Roar managing director Mark Kingsman confirming he will make an approach to sign the Dubliner.

“When you’ve got somebody of Robbie Keane’s calibre and pedigree, I’m sure every A-League club would be interested but we haven’t made an approach yet,” Kingsman he told The Age. “We will make the call.”

Keane would be following in the footsteps of his former Republic of Ireland team-mate Damien Duff if he makes a move to Australia, with the salary on offer to the former national team skipper Down Under likely to add to temptation to make the move.

There are also suggestions that Keane will offered a chance to continue his career in America, with some of LA Galaxy’s rivals believed to be weighing up a bid for a striker who won three MLS Cups during his time in California.
