Robbie Keane pens new contract with the LA Galaxy
Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane has signed a multi-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Galaxy, the Major League Soccer club have announced.
The 33-year-old made the move to the United States from Tottenham in August 2011 and has proved a big success, scoring 34 goals in 55 MLS appearances.
“I’m enjoying my football and that’s the most important thing," he announced on the club's website.
"It was only a matter of time for me to sign. It was obviously done a while ago and I’m very pleased. I think it works out for both myself and the Galaxy."
“So far pre-season has been good and everyone is looking forward to the real business. We can see then how it comes together and the two new strikers that we have will suit me because of the way I play.”
Keane's efforts helped the Galaxy lift the MLS Cup in both 2011 and 2012, while he was also named the club's MVP last year after notching 16 goals during the season.
Galaxy will kick off their new MLS campaign on Saturday against Real Salt Lake.
