Race remarks show dark side of Fuertes

RACISM reared its ugly head in Argentina this week after a player wept in front of the TV cameras and accused an opponent of making grossly insensitive remarks about the colour of his skin.

Boca Juniors' Colombian defender Breyner Bonilla gave an interview in which he spoke about an incident which took place during a league match against Colon. Bonilla was shown a red card for a dangerous tackle, prompting veteran Colon striker Esteban Fuertes and other players to surround the Boca man.

Bonilla said Fuertes threatened him by saying: "I'm going to break your bones you black sh*t, go back to Africa."

Fuertes admitted exchanging words with Bonilla but insisted that there was no racial abuse.
