PSV draw cuts lead to three

Monday April 02 2007

PSV EINDHOVEN suffered another blow to their stuttering title defence, ahead of tomorrow's Champions League quarter-final first leg clash with Liverpool, after they drew 1-1 away to NAC Breda on Saturday.

It means their lead at the top of the Dutch league has been cut to three points with second-placed Ajax winning 3-0 at Heracles Almelo.

Roma, Manchester United's opponents on Wednesday, had to settle for a 1-1 draw with AC Milan at home.

Philippe Mexes put Roma ahead in the fourth minute but Alberto Gilardino's equaliser keeps second-placed Roma 17 points behind champions-elect Inter Milan.

Valencia, who travel to Chelsea on Wednesday, edged out Espanyol 3-2 in an entertaining match at the Mestalla.

Los Che led 2-1 at the interval with goals from David Villa and Vicente sandwiching Albert Riera's strike for the Catalans.

Miguel Angel Angulo extended Valencia's lead in the second half but Luis Garcia's strike for the visitors from Barcelona set up a tense finale.

Meanwhile, goals from Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto'o kept Barcelona's title ambitions on track with a nervous 2-1 victory over Deportivo La Coruna as they moved three points clear at the top of the Primera Liga.

Adrian managed to strike a late consolation for the visitors.
