French prosecutors have today called for former France and Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse to be charged with blackmail over the Mathieu Valbuena sex tape scandal.

The 35-year-old, who claimed to have only tipped off his French team-mate to the existence of a tape featuring the midfielder and his girlfriend - was initially cleared of any wrong doing earlier this year.

However, prosecutors now say that he has a case to answer, according to AFP. A court will decide in December whether Cisse should be charged.

The fallout from the scandal saw Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema arrested last year for an alleged attempt to blackmail Valbuena over the tape, with the France star subsequently left out of the Euro 2016 squad on home soil as a result.
