Preston meet their end

PRESTON have been relegated from the Championship after losing 1-0 at home to promotion-chasing Cardiff. Peter Whittingham fired home the only goal of the game early in the first half after good work from Craig Bellamy.
The win keeps the Welsh side a point behind Norwich in the chase the second automatic promotion spot after the Canaries beat Derby 3-2 in a thriller at Carrow Road, where Simeon Jackson completed a hat-trick in the sixth minute of added-time.
David Amoo, on loan from Liverpool, scored a late goal to give Hull a 1-1 draw at Loftus Road and spoil QPR's promotion party, but Neil Warnock's charges still seem certain to return to the top tier, pending an FA ruling regarding the third-party ownership of Alejandro Faurlin.
Swansea clinched a place in the play-offs by beating Ipswich 4-1, while Nottingham Forest stay sixth despite throwing away a two-goal lead against Bristol City. There was more despair for Leeds who lost 1-0 at Crystal Palace. Leeds have taken only two points from their last five games.
Palace now look safe, but Sheffield United look likely to join Preston in League One next season despite coming back from two goals down to win 3-2 at Reading.
