Manchester City fans thought were filming video tributes to departing hero Pablo Zabaleta, but they were given a big surprise when the man himself showed up to offer up a very personal thank-you.

Zabaleta has joined West Ham on a free transfer after nine successful years at City that have yielded five major trophies, including two Premier League titles.

Along with captain Vincent Kompany, the Argentine defender has been one of the shining lights of the club’s success during the most successful era in their history and City fans were eager to film messages of thank to their idol.

Emerging from a curtain behind his fans as they read out their tributes, the reaction of overwhelmed City fans made for a perfect departing gift from a player who has played 332 games for the club in all competitions.

Yet it was the final little man whose reaction said it all, as he was overcome with emotion as he embraced his hero, with Zabaleta also reduced to tears by their meeting.
