Twitter reacts to Brendan Rodgers sacking as Liverpool manager
Brendan Rodgers' three-year tenure as Liverpool manager came to an end this evening as the club's owners decided to sack the Northern Irishman just hours after the Merseyside derby.
The news came as a surprise to many journalists and fans on social media, with most people assuming the club would allow him a slightly longer bedding in period with his new signings.
But the club have decided to move on - former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp is favoured to take over - and the online reaction was a mixture of shock and tweets poking fun at some of Rodgers' well-known mantras.
Gary Lineker @GaryLineker - "Rodgers and out!"
Jimmy Bullard @jimmybullard - "Blimey just seen the Brendan Rodgers news! Didn't see that coming!"
Craig Burley @CBurleyESPN - "Said 2/3 years ago in my Sunday Mail column Rodgers would be found out and seen through. Progressive coach my backside."
Lord Sugar @Lord_Sugar - "Rodgers was over rated Suarez made him look good . Since he left LFC went down hill."
Mark Ogden @MOgdenTelegraph - "Personal view is that Rodgers harshly sacked by Lpool. Until they compete financially, will be an impossible job for most managers..."
The talk soon turned to who might replace the Northern Irishman at Anfield, with Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp strongly favoured.
Don Hutchinson @donhutch4 - "Brendan Rodgers gone. Only two names Ancheloti or Klopp"
Sally Nugent @sallynugent - "So #Rodgers sacked by LFC. Someone else must be ready to come in surely ?"
Jan Aage Fjortoft @JanAageFjortoft - "Rodgers fired!!!! No Klopp news yet....."

Klopp is made for Liverpool: the job is about charisma, drive, some mad belief...and making a non-stellar squad more than sum of its parts— Jonathan Northcroft (@JNorthcroft) October 4, 2015
