Twitter gives mixed reaction to potential return of Steven Gerrard to Liverpool
When news news broke regarding Steven Gerrard’s potential return to Liverpool late on Tuesday night, the red half of Merseyside went wild.
Joy was unconfined among the club’s global support base online too, with many taking to social media to register their delight after learning that new manager Jurgen Klopp has opened talks with the Anfield legend.
It is not, however, all sweetness and light. Surprisingly, perhaps, there were many who saw the sense last season behind the then-captain’s departure.
Their reservations over his fitness and ability to meet the demands of the Premier League have not faded, especially now that the team plays Klopp’s intense gegenpressing style of play.
Here’s the best reaction from Twitter to Gerrard’s potential homecoming. It’s much more of a mixed bag than you might expect…

Gerrard has tried & failed to break America so he's now coming back to Britain with a begging bowl just like Robbie Williams in the mid 00's— Luke (@LukeA1993) November 3, 2015
As much as I love Steven Gerrard I’m not convinced coming back is a good idea. I prefer the Klopp era to be a new era.— Kloppite (@PeteKopite) November 4, 2015
It's amazing that all of Steven Gerrard's troubles in the US boil down to the fact that he never looked at a map.— Maxi Rodriguez (@FutbolIntellect) November 3, 2015
Gerrard couldn't do it in MLS. If you think he'd be anything other than a drag to this LFC side you're completely blinded.— PhantomGoal (@PhantomGoal) November 3, 2015
Jürgen Klopp has treated Steven Gerrard better in 3 weeks than Rodgers had done in 3 years.— - (@AnfieldRd96) November 3, 2015
Don't know why people are going on about Steven Gerrard? Yes, he is loved and adored, but that is the past. This is Klopp time and Onward.— TheOfficialLFCStory (@LFCHistoryShow) November 3, 2015
