The all-too predictable exit of Dick Advocaat from Sunderland and Liverpool's decision to axe Brendan Rodgers saw the early season favourites to 'win' this season's Premier League sack race drop out of the market.

Now all eyes are falling on the next Premier League manager to get the chop, with Newcastle's Steve McClaren only just ahead of last season's title winning Chelsea boss Mourinho in the updated odds.

Chelsea's move to issue a vote of confidence for Mourinho came with a caveat that he needed to inspired a swift turnaround in results when the Premier League returns after the international break.

The Blues will entertain Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge in the next round of matches, with tricky away games against the in-form duo of West Ham and Stoke to follow.

That before a home game against Liverpool at the end of October and by then, Mourinho needs to have transformed his team that currently sit in 16th position, just four points off the relegation zone and ten behind leaders Manchester City.

Here are the latest odds on the next Premier League manager to lose his job:

Steve McClaren (Newcastle) 6/4

Jose Mourinho (Chelsea) 5/2

Tim Sherwood (Aston Villa) 5/1

Quique Flores (Watford) 20/1

Louis van Gaal (Manchester United) 40/1
