The latest Premier League transfer rumour would make for a very controversial switch
The Premier League has been waiting 52 years for a player to make the move between Manchester United and Liverpool but the bookies think that might be about to change.
Phil Chisnall swapped Old Trafford for Anfield in 1964, but the Star is reporting that the odds on another player to following Chisnall's lead have been slashed.
Memphis Depay could be on his way out of Manchester United after a disappointing first season at the club. The manager who signed him, Louis van Gaal, has been replaced by Jose Mourinho and it remains to be seen whether the Special One has any place in his squad for the Dutch international.
If Depay does move on, the betting odds suggest that his next home could be nearby. Liverpool are 7/4 to sign the winger, although Jurgen Klopp has just spent £30m on Sadio Mane, who plays in a similar position.
So few players switch between United and Liverpool that the rumoured transfer would be noteworthy, but it doesn't make much sense from a footballing perspective.
However, it will be an interesting summer sub-plot to follow as the transfer window kicks into full flow after Euro 2016.
Depay played 45 times for United last season, scoring seven goals.
