There will be no tricky Champions League qualifier for Roberto Mancini, thanks to this routine win, but it would not be Manchester City if things were that simple.
Third place and the FA Cup might represent a fine season at Eastlands, but the future of Carlos Tevez remains a thorny issue which could yet cause discomfort this summer.
Tevez is set to be fined by the club for missing the club's FA Cup trophy parade if, as expected, he fulfils plans to fly to Argentina today.
City are due to show off the FA Cup to fans in an open-top bus parade but, despite all players being told in writing, in English and their native language, that they are required to attend, senior figures at City have been made aware that captain Tevez will instead be boarding a flight to Buenos Aires which could cost him in excess of £200,000. Doubts remain over Tevez's future at City and the forward is a target of Inter Milan and Roma.
Yesterday, Joleon Lescott opened the scoring with a header he knew nothing about before Edin Dzeko added a second with his first touch after coming on as a substitute.
