Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger has declared that neither Jay Rodriguez nor Morgan Schneiderlin will be sold this summer – but the latter has expressed his dismay at the Saints' selling policy.

Former manager Mauricio Pochettino is interested in taking the duo to join him at Tottenham – Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren have all moved to Liverpool while Luke Shaw has signed for Manchester United and Arsenal have taken Calum Chambers, with Southampton pocketing almost £100m for the combined deals.

But Krueger refuted reports that Rodriguez and Schneiderlin will join the exodus. "They are part of the core that we have decided to keep ," he insisted. "Jay and Morgan are not for sale and they will be a part of our club as we enter the new season."

However, Schneiderlin tweeted: "6 years of an amazing journey £saintsfc DESTROYED in 1 hour !!!"

Elsewhere, Hull City have swooped for Scotland's young player of the year Andrew Robertson from Dundee United and have also signed defender Harry Maguire from Sheffield United.

Alejandro Sabella, who led Argentina to the World Cup final, has stood down as manager.
