Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he is not surprised that Real Madrid are interested in Harry Kane, but insists the striker will not be sold in the summer.

As revealed by Telegraph Sport, Real are monitoring Kane ahead of a potential bid for the England international at the end of the season.

Spurs head coach Pochettino is well aware that Kane will be on the shopping lists of some of the biggest clubs in the world, but is confident the 22-year-old will stay at White Hart Lane.

Asked about Real’s interest in Kane, Pochettino said: “It doesn't surprise me, I think Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in Europe, or in the world.

“It would not surprise me if some big clubs are interested. But he is not for sale and the good thing is that Harry wants to stay with us. This is the most important thing.

“Sometimes a manager or head coach can say a ‘player is not for sale’, but the player wants to leave. There are a lot of examples of that.

"But in this case, the good thing is that Tottenham don't want to sell him sell and Harry Kane wants to stay with us.”

Despite the fact Pochettino will make changes to his team for Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie against Leicester City, Kane could still lead the attack.

“It's true that Harry is in very good condition, he's fresh, mentally and physically, and we are happy in the way he is now,” said Pochettino. “We analyse every player for every game. We try to get them in the right condition to compete in every game.

“Some players believe they are fresh, but it's not true. We need to be clever in our decisions. We work very hard to identify the players who are fresh and those who will play in the next few games.”
