Raheem Sterling puts his house on the market and begins London property search
Raheem Sterling is preparing to put his Merseyside home on the market, fuelling rumours that a move away from Liverpool is imminent.
According to reports in the Daily Mail, the 20-year-old has been looking at houses in London with Arsenal and Chelsea interested in the England international.
Sterling's contract situation at Liverpool looks increasingly uncertain after he turned down a £90k-a-week offer and postponed negotiations until the end of the season.
Liverpool are hoping to tie him down to a five-year deal but will be rocked by the news that Sterling has already begun the process of putting his Southport property on the market but it's unclear whether he will sell or rent.
Liverpool legend Phil Thompson believes Liverpool's failure to secure Champions League football will be the determining factor in why Sterling leaves Anfield.
He told Sky Sports: “I think it will be very difficult for him to stay at Liverpool now. He’s shown all the signs that he’s ready and prepared to leave the club.
“But if he was to stay I would like to think his role will be on the flanks – I don’t think Liverpool can even contemplate him being their main striker next season, because he’s not a natural goalscorer.
“Liverpool need somebody who’s going to get you at least 15 league goals and maybe 25 overall – Raheem Sterling is not going to get you that.
“He’s done well for the team – he’s helped them out up front this season, but I think everyone can see that he’s not quite strong enough for it.
“So, no matter where he is next season, I think his best role is out wide rather than through the middle.”
