Raheem Sterling was left in no doubt of Liverpool fans’ views on his contract impasse as he was heckled during the club’s unveiling of their new kit.
Sterling modelled Liverpool’s strip, designed by Boston-based sports giant New Balance, alongside Daniel Sturridge, Martin Skrtel and Simon Mignolet.
But as the youngster was quizzed on stage at Anfield about his views on the design, one of the 500 invited guests interrupted.
“Make sure we see you in it next season,” was the shout from the crowd
This was followed by cheers from the rest of the audience, Sterling left to look sheepish. Although it was in good humour, it further demonstrated the current difficulties facing the youngster following last week’s BBC interview.
The 20-year-old went on to say he was looking forward to playing at Wembley in next week’s semi-final as it is his ‘home town’.
Sterling’s contract negotiations have become fraught during the course of this season, after he rejected a £100,000 new deal and his advisor asked for £150,000 a week, eventually postponing talks until the end of the season.
He courted controversy by revealing his intention to put his talks on hold in a TV interview last week.
