The official retirement of Steven Gerrard today has prompted one of the Premier League's most discussed debates to be reignited - Gerrard, Lampard or Scholes?

Given the trio are all contemporaries of each other and played in the same England team for a spell, it is natural that comparisons will be made between the midfielders.

They all offered different qualities to a team and if you polled 100 football fans you would probably get a fairly split vote on which one was the best player.

Scholes is doing punditry on BT for tonight's Europa League clash between Man United and Feyenoord, and was asked for his opinion on the matter - albeit with Frank Lampard removed from the equation.

After being asked, 'Scholes or Gerrard?', the Man United legend exhaled, paused, before unequivocally answering, 'No question, is it?'.

That would probably be the response of most Man United fans, but there's no doubt that history will remember all three England legends fondly.
