Park to pen United deal ahead of season kick-off
Ji-sung Park expects to sign a new contract at Manchester United before the Premier League opener against West Brom on August 14 after saying he has no desire to leave Old Trafford.
The 30-year-old midfielder, a £4m buy from PSV Eindhoven in June 2005, has just 11 months to run on his deal at United, but Alex Ferguson confirmed last week that the South Korean had been offered a two-year extension.
With defender Chris Smalling signing a new deal, tying Park to a new contract will leave the club free to push on with talks with Mexican forward Javier Hernandez -- who missed last night's friendly against the MLS All-Stars after suffering mild concussion in training -- over an improvement to his terms.
"I have never thought about leaving the club," Park said. "My mind was always on staying at United."
United travel to Washington DC today ahead of Saturday's tour finale against Barcelona -- without the rested Lionel Messi, Dani Alves and Alexis Sanchez -- at FedEx Field.
•wigan are poised to snap up Derry City winger James McClean after this weekend's Super Cup in Dublin
The Latics are close to a €330,000 deal, with a move likely to be made once the future of Charles N'Zogbia is resolved. But with the French midfielder's transfer to Aston Villa now imminent, Wigan have contacted Derry about the highly sought-after 22-year-old.
McClean was due to join Peterborough this week before having second thoughts about the move, allowing Wigan to move ahead of a pack of clubs for his signature.
