O'Neill hails reborn O'Shea as Black Cats bid to stun City
IRELAND defender John O'Shea has been hailed by Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill on the eve of today's clash against Manchester City.
Centre-back O'Shea has roared back to form in recent weeks and O'Neill hopes that will continue as Sunderland prepare for a run of three games against City, Tottenham and Liverpool.
O'Neill said: "He (O'Shea) will be important against Manchester City. I think he felt that when we played against Manchester United, his old team, he wanted to play really well.
"Not that he's got anything more to prove to Man United, he's had his career there. He might have been a bit disappointed, particularly in the first goal we conceded. But he's made up for that."
Sunderland have won two of their last three games and head into the clash with City in confident mood.
But O'Neill is not getting carried away, and he added: "We've beaten sides in and around the same area as us, and that's important. We're not in any kind of position to start boasting about anything – absolutely not, particularly with the programme that's ahead of us.
"But this gives us some confidence to go into the game."
