Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele will serve a six-match suspension with immediate effect after being found guilty of violent conduct in relation to an incident during Monday night's game against Chelsea, the Football Association has announced.
The Belgian midfielder was involved in an incident with Diego Costa during last Monday's 2-2 draw, which eliminated Spurs from title contention. Footage appeared to show Dembele inserting his finger into the eye of the Chelsea striker.
The six game ban will see him miss the last two league games of this season against Southampton and Newcastle and the first four fixtures of the 2016/17 season.
The Belgian had until 6pm on Thursday to respond but he did not contest the charge, head coach Mauricio Pochettino said on Friday afternoon.
And the full extent of Dembele's sanction followed from the FA.
A statement from the FA read: "Mousa Dembele will serve a six-match suspension with immediate effect after he committed an act of violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video."
