Mourinho: Barcelona wasted Fabregas
Cesc Fabregas has spoken of his own surprise at playing for another Premier League club other than Arsenal after inspiring Chelsea's 3-1 win over Burnley.
Fabregas marked his return to the English game with two assists - one a sublime pass to Andre Schuerrle for Chelsea's second - in a man-of-the-match showing at Turf Moor.
When Fabregas joined for £30m from Barcelona, Jose Mourinho claimed the Spaniard turned down the chance to rejoin Arsenal and the player himself admitted it was a surprise move.
"It's something I would've never expected," Fabregas said of playing for Chelsea.
"Football is unexpected, it brought me here and I will give my best to be as good as I can be. I'm very happy at the moment, I want to play football."
Fabregas, though, says he has settled in west London easily and is enjoying his time at Chelsea.
"They've made it so easy for me, everybody has welcomed me since day one," he said.
"I'm comfortable with the staff and all the players, we have a good connection. I'm expecting a really good year in front of us."
Mourinho, meanwhile, feels Barcelona wasted Fabregas' talents.
The Chelsea manager has long been aware of the players' skills and was happy to see him shine as the title-favourites got their season off to a flying start.
“Fabregas was our first choice for that position. I know clearly what the player is because we were so long in the same league," he said.
“He moved to Spain also, so for the last 10 years we have been in the same league for six or seven. I know exactly what he will bring. For Barça he was the fake nine, the number ten and winger but I know and he knows what is his best position so he is giving exactly what we need. Quick thinking in midfield. He brings people in the same direction. I am really happy.”
