McArthur seals it

BOLTON 1 WIGAN 2

James McArthur boosted Wigan's survival hopes with a dramatic late winner over fellow Premier League strugglers Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.

Gary Caldwell headed the visitors into a 43rd-minute lead before Mark Davies equalised on 67 minutes.

In the opening half, pinned back in their own half, Owen Coyle's men were frankly dismal, and it was only Wigan's chronic lack of a final ball that kept the home side level.

Bolton's resistance was broken when Franco Di Santo forced a low save out of Adam Bogdan in the 42nd minute and from Jean Beausejour's resulting corner, captain Caldwell rose unchallenged to give Wigan the lead.

Wigan should have extended their lead in the second half but Bolton snatched an equaliser six minutes later when Bogdan's long goal-kick deflected off David Ngog and fell to Davies, who crashed his shot into the top corner.

However, McArthur followed up a 75th-minute drive by Victor Moses, which struck home 'keeper Bogdan and rebounded to the Scot who could not miss from six yards.

Bolton's Ryo Miyaichi was then denied by an Ali Al Habsi save late in the game.
