Will Jose Mourinho fork out £180m for Neymar and say goodbye to two defenders in January?
Manchester United want to sign Neymar in a £180million deal with the Brazilian said to be considering his future at Barcelona, the Daily Record reports.
Neymar has signed a Barca contract extension. But, we are told, the new deal involved a minimal increase in the value of the Brazilian's release clause during its first year, leaving the maximum transfer-fee cost of a summer switch essentially unchanged.
United would need to part with £180m to secure his services.
Meanwhile, Anthony Martial is being targeted by big-spending Paris Saint-Germain.
The Sun reports how Martial is struggling to hold down a place at United and PSG, who wanted to sign the France international before he moved to Old Trafford from Monaco for £36 million in 2015, believe they can lure him away.
The Sun adds how Jose Mourinho apparently warned the 20 year-old last week that he was fighting for his Old Trafford career, and that his chances were running out, and the paper quotes a source as saying: "It is well known PSG are very keen if the club does consider selling. He has been dropped recently against Feyenoord and West Ham and has generally struggled for form."
Elsewhere, United could be about to offload to defensive players.
Marcos Rojo has failed to make much of an impression at United since being signed from Sporting Lisbon for £16 million in 2014 and the Argentina defender could be on his way to Germany... for the right price.
According to The Daily Mail, he was expected to leave in the summer, with Monaco among those interested, but a deal could not be agreed.
Now Leverkusen are keen to sign the 26 year-old and United will apparently listen to offers, providing they can recoup much of the fee they paid Sporting.
Mourinho, The Mail claims, is keen to add a new centre-back to his squad and selling Rojo will make room for a January arrival.
It was Leverkusen, remember, who bought Javier Hernandez from United for £7.3 million in August 2015, and that worked out very well for the player.
Holland international Daley Blind fears for his future at United because Jose Mourinho is planning a defensive revamp, reports The Daily Mirror.
The Mirror adds that Blind is among those most under threat from Mourinho's planned two-transfer window rebuild, which will start in January and continue next summer.
Mourinho has reportedly set his sights on signing Bayern Munich star David Alaba, Bayer Leverkusen's Alexandar Dragovic and Southampton captain Jose Fonte.
Alaba will cost around £40 million and Dragovic £20 million. However, United will apparently have competition for Alaba from Man City.
Those who could join Blind out of Old Trafford are Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw, suggests The Mirror.
