Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has declared he is ‘ready for the final’ in a cheeky Instagram message ahead of his side’s Europe League final against Ajax in Stockholm on Wednesday.

This was, of course, a devious message, as Ibrahimovic is not expected to play again in 2017 after he ruptured knee ligaments in last months Europa League quarter-final against Anderlecht, with the injury seemingly ending his United career.

The striker who scored 28-goals in his maiden season at United is reported to have turned down a fresh contract offer to stay at the Old Trafford club despite his injury, with his one-year contract at the club set to expire in the next few weeks.

Despite his despair at missing out on a final being played in his native Sweden, Ibrahimovic appears to be in good spirits after suggesting he was planning a miracle comeback to take to the field for the final on Wednesday.

With offers on the table to continue his career in America’s Major League Soccer, this may be one of the last social media posts served up by Ibrahimovic as United player and he certainly went out with a bang as more than four million views of the video recorded within soon after it was posted.

It served to confirm yet again the vast social media reach of this global superstar:
