Chelsea midfielder Willian has revealed that he was the subject of transfer interest from Manchester United last summer.

Jose Mourinho endured a torrid final few months as Chelsea manager last season, with what appeared to be dressing room revolt against his leadership undermining his position prior to his sacking in December 2015, yet Willian was one of the few players who shone for during the most difficult period of his managerial career.

Rumours that Mourinho wanted Willian with him at United surfaced when the Portuguese tactician took over at Old Trafford last summer and Willian has now confirmed he was the subject of transfer interest from United.

“There was interest, yes. From Manchester United, because Mourinho is there too,” Willian told Globo Esporte.

“From other clubs I do not know, but there are always some things on the internet. I’m glad to hear that there are clubs that admire my work.”

Willian’s sparkling form from last season has not been replicated this term, with his peripheral role in Antonio Conte’s team sparking fresh doubts about his future at Chelsea.

The 28-year-old has is also rumoured to be a target of transfer interest from big-spending Chinese clubs and he appears to be open to the prospect of a move to the Far East.

“To make this decision, we end up thinking about our future, our children and family,” he added.

“I do not know if I would or not. What I can say is that I’m happy at Chelsea, I feel very good there, as if it were my home.”
