Despite a highly lauded number of displays during the pre-season, Henrikh Mkhitaryan has not been selected in the starting line up for Manchester’s United Community Shield clash with Leicester City at Wembley.
For his first competitive game as Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has selected a relatively offensive outfit, though has opted to start Jesse Lingard on the right wing, ahead of Mkhitaryan, who arrived from Borussia Dortmund last month.
Anthony Martial has been positioned on the left flank, with Wayne Rooney in the no 10 role and Zlatan Ibrahimoivc leading the line.
Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini comprise a relatively conservative midfield, while Eric Bailly partners Daley Blind at the heart of the defence.
Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw are the right and left backs respectively, with David De Gea between the sticks.
Mkhitaryan is joined on the bench by Morgan Schneiderlin, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera, Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo.
Leicester, meanwhile, have also put a strong foot forward. Though without new Chelsea man N'Golo Kanate, Claudio Ranieri has fielded many of his stars from their incredible title tilt. Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, Danny Drinkwater, Wes Morgan, Robert Hooth and Christan Fuchs all start.
